NSF’s NOIRLab invites teachers and astronomers to participate in our Project ASTRO program for the 2020-2021 school year. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, the program is necessarily changing from past years.
Project ASTRO will give teachers access to a pool of astronomers who will be available to do virtual classroom visits on a variety of topics in astronomy. The astronomers can participate in astronomy education in a variety of ways that include giving a virtual presentation, leading an online activity, talking about careers in astronomy and STEM, showing students their astronomy equipment and other creative ideas generated by the teachers and astronomers. Some astronomers have the ability to live stream images from their solar and nighttime telescopes as well!
The 2020 Project ASTRO workshop will take place on Saturday, November 14th from 10am until noon MST. Teachers and astronomers will get a chance to meet, learn about how to request astronomer visits, discuss the topics and activities available for classroom use and get a demonstration of streaming images from a solar telescope (weather permitting).
Project ASTRO is free for teachers and astronomers to participate. We hope you can join us on November 14th!
